La Belle Hélène

Gosford Hill School
Wed 18 to Sat 21 Oct 2017

Our next show

October 2017 - LA BELLE HELENE It's not every day that a man is promised another man's wife as a gift. Moreover, she happens to be the most beautiful woman in the world - La Belle Hélène. The problem is that Helen's husband (not unnaturally) has no enthusiasm for this plan! Such is the background to KAOS' next production directed by Richard Morton.

Who we are

We formed in 1977 under the baton of musical director Paul Ingram. We rehearse on Monday evenings at Gosford Hill School. As concert time approaches there are usually extra rehearsals with a full orchestra. We give three performances a year: a Spring Concert, a full-stage Autumn Production and a Christmas Charity Concert.

Paul Ingram - Director of Music
Paul began conducting while reading for a chemistry degree at Nottingham University, where playing the cello in orchestras led to a chance to direct a chamber orchestra. When he moved to Oxfordshire to begin a career in teaching, music continued to be an integral part of his life. He was instrumental in founding Kidlington Amateur Operatic Society in 1977, and five years later became music director of Woodstock Music Society.

Richard Morton - Director
Most of his working life has been spent on the concert platform or the operatic stage. His formative years were under the watchful eye of Sir David Willcocks in the world-renowned choir of King’s College Cambridge. Following a runner’s-up prize in the Kathleen Ferrier competition he pursued a career in oratorio and lieder. He regularly performed as a soloist with John Elliot Gardiner’s Monteverdi Choir and, as a freelance singer, was fortunate enough to sing in many celebrated concert halls and opera houses throughout Europe, including Barcelona, Munich, Paris, Helsinki and Warsaw. In 1980 he joined Welsh National Opera as a principal tenor, performing many operatic roles over a number of years. He also appeared with Opera North. Since retiring from performance Richard has devoted himself to teaching voice and languages together with stage directing and we are lucky to have Richard giving us guidance and offering his expertise on our production of La Belle Helene. We will be performing on 18 - 21 October in Gosford Hill School Hall.
